Well.. I was born and raised in Montreal.. but having
migrated to Calgary, you couldn't pay me enough to move
back to Quebec.. I have a little problem with such
things as the "language police" and being a
second-class citizen by virtue of being an "Anglo
tete-carre"..It may be better now, but after living
through one too many separation referenda (think
secession for all you US folks),
when I was offered the chance to transfer out,
didn't think for more than a whole second..

The "west is the best" IMHO, lived in Montreal,
and Toronto, they simply can't compare...

Having said that, from what I hear, Quebec is a
lot better than it was when I was there, I remember
mail boxes exploding, kidnappings, Pierre Laporte
being executed by a separatist group, the War Measures
Act (martial law in effect), not being able to get any
English services, or for that matter English
newspapers in my local corner store, having to fill
out forms to get somthing like a Canadian Tire or
Sears catalog in English, not being able to put an
English "for sale" sign on my truck. Its funny that
way, Quebec insists that Canada be bi-lingual for
them, but live there and iots another story. (I
actually received a citation from the "Office de la
langue francaise" or language police for that "for
sale" sign)..

What do I miss? the food... you just can't get a
"stime" or good smoked meat, or really good french
fries, outside Quebec, not to mention real poutines,
or creton...but I digress...

I'm happy for you and I'm really glad you find it
a great place to live.. wasn't always the case.. I've
attached a pic from Banff, one hour'sdrive from my
place. The same river in the pic (the Bow) flows past
my place, and is what I see from the living room
window..
