Insisto con lo que vengo diciendo, perdón que me repita tanto. La idea del muro en la frontera con México está más relacionada con el grado de frustración que siente mucha gente en EEUU relacionado con la inmigración ilegal que a encontrar una solución práctica al problema.
Creo que se puede decir exactamente lo mismo de la idea de militarizar las fronteras. Es comprensible el hartazgo y la preocupación de amplios sectores del país por este tema, pero creo que la solución no pasa por estas medidas.

In her new bestseller Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores, Malkin writes that "at the northern border with Canada... every rubber orange cone and measly 'No Entry' sign should immediately be replaced with an armed National Guardsman." She suggests that something in the neighborhood of 100,000 troops might be appropriate.
The problem with this idea is that the same training that makes U.S. soldiers outstanding warriors makes them extremely dangerous as cops. Lawrence Korb, former assistant secretary of defense in the Reagan administration, put it succinctly: The military "is trained to vaporize, not Mirandize."

ReplyDeleteLo comentaba la vez pasada. No es la solución definitiva al problema, pero creo que hay que asegurar las fronteras. Pero este no es el camino. Creo que esta tarea la debe hacer la Border Patrol. Es necesario darle la capacidad en efectivos y equipamiento para que puedan actuar con mayor eficiencia. Como dicen algunos analistas, tal vez haya que sacar la Border Patrol de la agencia de inmigración y crear un organismo aparte.

ReplyDeletecomparto con vos eso de la frustración de muchos... pero como dice un sabio amigo: en cualquier momento llega una denuncia ante un juez liberal y progresista y "somos boleta"!!!
ADEMÁS de asegurar las fronteras (con los medios que hagan falta para ser eficientes) hay que crear los canales para solucionar la crisis actual: una ley de inmigración adecuada a los tiempos que corren... Sino es como poner una curita sobre una herida infectada...
