Joe Lieberman, el candidato a vicepresidente demócrata en las elecciones de 2000, perdió las elecciones primarias para la candidatura al senado por el partido demócrata en Connecticut, su estado.
Muchos analistas creen que esta movida aleja cada vez más al partido demócrata del centro y de las posibilidades de ganar una elección a presidente.
Todo un tema, la alternancia es fundamental:
Joe Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2000, and who nearly won, has lost the Democratic Primary for his Senate Seat in Connecticut. A tremendous amount of funding and campaign effort was donated to his far-left opponent, Ned Lamont. Lieberman will now run as an Independent in the November general election, and probably win. The net result will simply be the loss of a seat for the Democrats and the addition of one more Independant.
More importantly, this has moved the center of gravity of the Democratic party leftward. Essentially, any Democrat that supports the Iraq War and Israel in its war against Hizbollah is unwelcome by the left wing that now dominates the party. This, despite the fact that the most powerful Democrats of them all, the Clintons, supported Lieberman in his primary campaign. Make no mistake, the events of today make Hillary Clinton's Presidential bid vastly more difficult, as the far left will seek to discredit her as well.
How strong is the far left?
ReplyDeleteLieberman va a presentarse en noviembre como independiente y va a ganar por afano, fijate que perdio solo por 4%, y eso entre los democratas. Los independientes y los republicanos apoyan a Lieberman en un porcentaje mucho mas alto. A los democratas, esta interna les salio para el joraca, ya que por seguir al candidato antiwar (progre al mango, tipo Soros y Michael Moore) Lieberman se corta solo, y como el republicano en Connecticut tiene solo 13% de los votos (deudas de juego, corrupcion), la gente moderada se va a tirar para Lieberman. Hillary no sabe que hacer, porque si apoya a Lieberman los liberales progres antiwar se le ponen en contra, y si se le pone en contra, los democratas moderados le rajan. Existen mas democratas como Lieberman, pero no son tan conocidos a nivel nacional y no tienen una trayectoria tan extensa en el Senado (18 anios)
